[E-Type] Brakes won't bleed - discovery!

In reply to a message from Peter Conway sent Sat 19 Jul 2003:

Peter,
That would explain why his picture doesn’t seem to quite match
what I see in the book. Boy! I’d like to see a real, live one!
We’ll know soon anyway, as David is not putting his back
together, I believe, as I suggested…–
The original message included these comments:

Ray, perhaps the confusion is that jos is talking about the master
cylinder and we are concerned with the servo cylinder. In the
master cylinder the seals both face forward as one is the piston
seal and the other is the piston to body (stationary) seal. Peter

I am not talking about the master cylinder, that has a different piston.
Look at the exploded drawing

here is a photo of both pistons. Maybe this clarifies it a bit better.

Jos,
OK! David’s thread is talking about the ‘‘shuttle’’ piston on
the left side of your photo. The two seals on there are clearly
facing opposite directions, with their concave sides oriented away
from each other, as I believe they should be. So you’re OK.–

Put it together as in the picture I e mailed you. Use the diagram in the
rebuild kit. I think we established a couple of yrs ago that the ROM was
wrong.

Ok, I do feel better now. I was concerned that I might get
austricized from Jag-lovers for asking such a stupid question, but
now I’m confused. We have differing opinions. I’m tempted to put
it together and try it ‘‘concave sides facing each other’’. Is there
any concensus?
