[E-Type] Car lift

All,
Recently got a scissor type lift from Harbor. Can’t tell enough how
convenient it is. Although I haven’t tried the Jags yet, I have been able
to get a
spridget over it. Easy work on the front suspension and work on the
interior. Sure beats crawling around with jacks and stands. It only goes
up 39" or so but sure does give me plenty of convenience. Very well
constructed. I expect the 72 E to be an issue but will simply lay down a
couple of boards on either side if necessary. Considering the costs of
other setups, this is by far the best bang for the buck.
The only hassle is delivery. I had it shipped to my biz and then
transferred it onto a pickup to get home. After some contortions, I was
able to get it off with an engine lift and a couple of chains. I figured,
however, one can have it delivered at home as long as there is access for
a truck, and an engine lift. I almost tore it apart to get it home. It
comes in a crate and a separate pump package. I had to tear the crate
apart on the truck. I did find the pump motor had a slight bend in the
shaft and immediately called to get a replacement. Will post issues if/as
they arise 8-). Also can see where it would be great for
painting/bodywork especially on the lower areas. I figure there are a lot
of us out there with 50+year skeletons that would appreciate more
accessability to our toys.

It’s not the 50 year old skeleton, it’s the 50 year old cartilage :)–

I got a Kwiklift for Christmas. Got the e-type backed up on it now and
spent the holidays working on the underside of it.

It puts the wheels about 20 inches off the ground which with the car wheel
height, puts the chassis about arms length while laying on a creeper.

So much better than messing around with jack stands and worrying if the
thing is going to fall on you or worse yet, break something on it by jacking
in the wrong place.

Harvey,
The shorter value is totally collapsed and the minimum may be the point
that you need to raise it before it has enough angle on the hydraulic
rams, but I think it’s also a function of the car weight. Lets put it
this way. I was able to get my 72 midget on it and so don’t expect any
issues with the jags, in terms of straddling. I will try to see if an XJ6
can be lifted.
Since you’re in NC, if you wish you can see it first hand since I have it
in Hickory. Alternatively, my son is getting one for his garage and he
lives in Cary, but that one won’t be in for a while as it’s on backorder.

Another nice convenience is that you can lift each vehicle end by itself
by using it like a regular jack. Again, I’ve only done this with the MG.
This gives more access to the belly area of the cars, like the exhaust
and driveline. I’m going to fab a couple of plates to allow for the
wheels to rest on instead of using the frame for this method.

Max, based on your report I had a look at the scissors lift in the
Harbor Freight on-line catalog. They list 2 dimensions. One seems
to be the minimum height in the collapsed configuration. The other

is something along the line of minimum height to lift. Can you
explain the difference?
