George and fellow Listers,
Funny this subject should come up today - - - as I picked up the three disks
I ordered from these folks at the P.O. Box as a side trip after securing the
Sunday paper this morning.
I ordered 3 separate disks, one disk is numbered JHM1119 and covers
both the series 1 and 2 cars from 1961 through 1970. The second disk
is numbered JHM1151 and covers the Series 3 V12 E-Type. The third
disk does not list a manual or part number on the label and it covers the
electrical systems of all E-Types from 61 through 74.
Disks 1 & 2 show the JDHT logo on the disk label and also show it on
the opening screen page. Both of these disks appear to match the
printed manuals based on a selected sampling I did. By selecting a
numbered page in the printed manual (Page XXX) and then calling up
the same page (XXX) on the disk, both pages were identical.
Disks 1 & 2 contain the complete service manual and parts manual for
all three series of cars. Now don’t you Series 2 guys all excited just yet,
the S2 parts manual is identical to the printed version - NO PICTURES!
The third disk, containing the electrical systems, is a nice feature in that
it provides a very detailed description of all things electrical in one
document. The Series 1 & 2 cars are listed in a section by themselves
as is the Series 3 model cars.
The price for all three was $49.00 plus shipping. They were priced as
follows: S1&2 at $18.00, S3 at $18.00, and Electrical Systems at
$13.00. Shipping for each disk was listed at $3.50 but I contacted
the seller prior to the actual purchase and he advised that shipping for
the 3 disks together would be $5.50. I should note that I hate to wait
and get beat out at the last moment so I used the BUY NOW feature
on eBay.
PROS
Can’t say enough good about them. Price wise you cannot go wrong
and one disk with the maintenance and parts manual is about TEN
to FIFTEEN PERCENT the cost of the same printed ones based on
my experience.
The material is indexed so it is easy to go to the exact section you
desire. Put the mouse on it and you are there…!
I plan to use them in the garage instead of the nice fresh crispy printed
manuals I purchased some time ago. Hence, no grease, grime, or oil
blobs to muck up the nice original manuals. Simply take the laptop to
the garage, insert the disk, and have at it.
Another nice part of having the CD’s is that I can print out the pages or
section I need for a particular problem and take them to the garage or
to wherever the car stopped running.
It will be nice to have a CD and the laptop along when I’m traveling (if
I ever get the %^&#!$ things finished) because I not only have the
maintenance manual, I also have the part numbers if I need to get on
the phone and have something shipped.
CONS
The wiring diagrams for the E-Types are somewhere twixt lousy and
really bad and probably no fault of the scanner operator that worked
up the material. The ones in the printed manuals were bad to begin
with, probably based on the fact that they tried to put too much info in
too small a space.
Overall, they are a fine product and are sold at a very fair & reasonable
price. My personal feeling is that they should be a welcome addition
to the E-Type folks and will last a loon time without yellowing or getting
a rip, tear or grease spot on the pages.
No, I’m not related to the seller by birth or marriage, just a satisfied
E-Type
owner, now armed with an easier way to retrieve info.
