[E-Type] Chrome strip mounting on hardura mat

The hardura mat covering the rear wood floor of my '64 Ser I FHC
has finally worn out. I have purchased a replacement hardura mat
from BAS but now need to install the corner snaps and chrome strips
with rubber inserts. Can anyone offer me advice on this, e.g., type
and source of rivets to use to fasten chrome strips to mat,
precautions, should I compensate for shrinkage when mounting corner
snaps, etc.?

Also, how do I post a link to a photo in my message?

Here’s how to post your pictures:

You get there from the ‘‘Photo album’’ link at the bottom of
each forum page.

Now re. the mats, I don’t think you need to worry about
shrinkage, especially if they came from BAS. Just mark the
holes for the female snaps right over the male ones already
on the plywood. Then rivet the females onto the mat. Mine
haven’t shrunk in the 10 years or more since I installed them.

IIRC, the aluminum strips were held to the mats by split
rivets and brass washers. I saved the existing washers and
obtained some new copper split rivets at a local fastener
supplier. Then, you just need to miter the new rubber
strips, same as the old ones and press them into the
aluminum holders once they’re installed.

See my album ‘‘Trimming’’ for the finished result. (Button at
the top of this post.)

BTW, this only applies to the early cars. Later cars had
vinyl instead of hardura and the strips were screwed
directly to the plywood through the cover.–
