[E-Type] Correct Headlight Replacements?

Are the Lucas PL 700 tripod style lamps really correct and an
authentic USA part for a 62 S1 E-type?

Stephen,

No, US cars were delivered with Lucas sealed beam units,
as separate bulb headlights were illegal in those days, as
I recall. they do look cool, though.

True, the Lucas lights (is that an oxymoron…?) were not a
factory install, but they were a very popular and widely available
accessory for any 7-inch headlighted car, so there would be no harm
(and I think no show penalty) for their use. If you’re going for
good lights, for all the work it takes to change’m, go with Hellas.–

Paul,

According to my 3.8 parts manual, they actually
WERE factory install – outside the US. They are even
shown in the figure. US cars show sealed beam units,
Haddock shows some of the Lucas sealed beams they
used. FWIW.

Think this is true - US was one of first to mandate sealed beam
and ‘tripods’ were used elsewhere.–
