I found a 5.5 inch aluminum strap in a box of parts that
came with my late production 1967 Series 1 E-Type and from
my research it appears that it was originally mounted on the
brake master cylinder. The tag is stamped with two rows of
numbers: 4212/543/4 and 25.F. The tag is also stamped with a
truncated pyramid containing the number 8. Does anyone know
how to decode this information?

The key is the truncated pyramid. When this is attached to
the car it protects it from disasters ranging from the Mayan
Calender meltdown to the dreaded effects of gasohol. If
placed over your bed, it will guarantee that you have only
sons. Over your kitchen stove, everything produced thereon
will be delicious.–

I do like Ian’s reply but I think the strip of metal is cadmium
plated steel, at least mine is. The coding on mine reads:
4212-543/5 G26
G26, I believe, means the 26th week of year G, aka year 8 = 1968.
According to the JHT my car was built on July 4, 1968, ie week 26.
A match. 4212-540 is the Jaguar code for brake master cylinder. 543
is the version and guessing /5 is the mould number?
I decode yours, 4212/543/4 and 25.F, manufactured in the 25th week
of year F, aka 1967, sometime the week of June 19, 1967 same part
number but the fourth in the sequence, whatever it is.
Just a guess. Voice of authority welcome.

Ha!!! I have a triangular aluminum foil hat that does the same thing. It also protects me from the government who is trying to read my mind.

Tom,
I suspect it is probably an id Tag from the Brake M/C,
According to the JDHT parts list the M/C less Reaction valve was
4212/533 and David Manners lists 4212/543 as superceeding the E/420
Brake M/C.
Purely conjecture from this point on: 25.f is probably the
production date. /4 could mean ‘‘4 port’’ i.e. Dual circuit version,
and the pyramid 8 is probably a lockheed trademark but might
indicate 8 ‘’ Servo diameter.
