I measure diameter of just under 2 1/4’’ diameter on the fuel
filler and the gas tank. 2-1/4’’ fuel filler hose is
available inexpensively at any good auto parts store. My
old one seems to be 2 1/4’’, but it’s misshapen so it’s hard
to be sure.
But the Jaguar suppliers list it as 2 1/8’’ diameter, which
seems to be Jaguar-specific, or at least not common. And it
will be difficult to force it up and back down the filler neck.
Does anyone know if 2 1/8’’ is really what’s supplied, and if
it’s really necessary? I’m guessing it’s actually 2 1/4’’,
and I can just pick it up locally.

I looked at mine, currently out of the car, and it’s clearly
stretched to 2 3/16’’, which is the OD of the filler pipe. I’d say
it was originally a 2 1/8’’ ID hose, fwiw. It is a PITA to install.
A 2 1/4’’ hose would be easier to install but might not provide a
tight enough fit.–

I’ve written in previous post that an easy way to install the rubber fuel
connector hose is to cut a notch in the top of the hose and then slide the
hose by way of the “U” shaped notch beyond the overfill nipple of the filler
neck. Spray some WD-40 on the filler neck so the hose slides easier. The
hose will slide higher on the filler neck than the length of the hose &
neck. Slide the tank into position and then slide the hose down. Good
quality hose clamps are a must as you do not want to do this job again and
be sure the tightening mechanism of the clamps are away from the tank as
tolerance are at a premium. You also need to replace the overfill and drain
tubes…again do not use larger OD size hoses as the tank clearances are
very tight.

Yup, this will be the third time that I’ve R&R’d the gas
tank from this car, and it is certainly a PITA, albeit a
slightly easier PITA each time.
It sounds like the 2 1/8’’ is probably right. I had dreams
of easily sliding my 2 1/4’’ hose up and down the filler neck
(an act which for some reason sounds slightly dirty).
Another dream dashed on the harsh rocks of reality.

I’ve got a new one in hand from XKS Unlimited (CO-18936) that
measures 2 1/4’’ ID. It is 6’’ long which is about 2’’ more than what
I see on the car now.
The PO bought it but didn’t use it – I wonder if he just didn’t
bother, forgot or didn’t like the fit.
Just sayin’ you can’t be sure you’ll get something smaller than
what they have at your FLAPS when you order the $$$ version.–

Aha! Thank you very much. I’ll go ahead and use the 2
1/4’’, if it’s good enough for XKs Unlimited it’s good enough
for me.–
