[E-Type] drivetrain install w/ dana 3:07 kit

hi guys: Has anyone who has a dana 3:07 gear change on their
4.2 S1 car had experience with the engine install where the
gearbox and driveshaft join up? After the engine and gearbox
are mounted, I hope the telescopic driveshaft in its compressed
shortened state can situate behind the bolt studs and then
elongate to bring the d-shaft back into the rear of the
gearbox. Is that a valid assumption? I’m not sure if the dana
hardware on the diff which mates to the d-shaft is in stock
position or hopefully not protruding further than stock
location - I don’t want to get bound up there at that gearbox -
d-shaft location. I just went back and removed the U-bolts
from the dana hw but the d-shft has no where to go if I had to
situate it back further toward the diff in case I needed to.
anybody have experience there? thanks much–

About 25 years ago I swapped a 3:54 ring and pinion for a new 3:07
in my '65 E type. Only issue was that the old flange off the old
pinion didn’t match the new pinion (different spline pattern) The
supplier of the new stuff sent me one that worked. Just bolted up
to the stock drive shaft as attached to the transmission. I’m not
really sure what you are speaking of when you talk about U bolts -
there were none on the installation on my car - or perhaps I’ve
entirely missed your question.–

I used an aftermarket conversion flange, which has the Dana
spline size and the standard circular flange. I got it
from IWE Just Rear Ends in Vancouver. Believe Coventry
West also sells them…probably others. No fitment issues.–

I replaced the 3.54 on my 4.2 OTS with a Dana 3.07 last winter.I
also found a flange that fit the Dana splines but mated to the
original driveshaft output flange. In my case, I found that the
‘‘inner circle’’ on the original output flange had to be filed down
slightly to mate perfectly with the new diff input flange. Perhaps
this was just the one that I used. Once that was done, although
there was slightly less available fore and aft movement in the
driveshaft, everything fit and has been functioning nicely.–
