My last correspondence with Uryk was in the back half of
January - small matter of customs docs for a pair of
frames for my car. Picked up the frames a few days after -
beautifully made per his reputation. Hope he’s ok. Paul–

Uryk appears to be no longer dealing direct with the public - his
frames are now only available via Hutsons in Leeds. Unfortunately
the price has gone up by a factor of 2 - aka doubled - to
3,000/pair. The above mentioned link on the E-Type UK Forum has
the details. The other parts - 5 speed box, callipers, power
steering etc - will be available from Hutsons in due course.

I hope this allows someone else to get into the competition of making them.

just in case you go for the rear ETF brake upgrade, be
aware that the handbrake mechanism does not work as well
as the factory set up. Mine only passed the uk mot test
because they know me well. The fronts are fine, Uryk did
say he had a modified part for the rear but up to now have
heard nothing.–

I have been communicating with Uryk for some parts over the last few
days. I asked him about the report of him no longer dealing directly
with the public. His response was “you shouldn’t believe everything
you read on the forum…” Make of that what you will.On Mon, Feb 23, 2015 at 7:03 AM, Heuer david@myetype.co.uk wrote:

I believe that forum member Richard Cunningham had become
the US distributor of Uryk’s excellent products and perhaps
he could shed some light on the situation when the time
comes. I ordered my frame rail set though Richard and it
came from England, perfect as usual and fits like a glove!

I have been in touch with Uryk twice previously on false starts trying
to order Series III frame sets. Life and a divorce got in the way. Now
I am mad at himself for not ordering the set earlier. What was priced
at £2500 a few months ago now costs £6000 plus the £500 shipping.
That’s $10,000 for the full frame set.

I don’t have the old frames off yet but I’ll be looking them over very
carefully. They are 43+ years old so I suspect a new frame will be the
safest move. ouch

In reply to a message from Bob 2crazy4u sent Tue 3 Mar 2015:

Everyone may wish to check in with their local airport for
some independent advice on Reynolds sub-frames; most single
engine aircraft have the engine mounted with a very similar
type of arrangement, and many of these aircraft are now
older than most e-types.

Obviously - severe rust is a fatal flaw, so I’m certainly
not advocating putting rusted units back in. It’s your car,
so you must do what you are comfortable with.

That said - I found airplane guys to be not so quick to
condemn aged sub-frames as this group. Again -
notwithstanding RUST.

Another good resource is Chuck Hadley’s web site where he
did a blog on ‘saving your old sub-frames’ and how to treat
them. www.monocoquemetalworks.com–

Hi Guys,
Most light aircraft from Piper Cubs, Tiger Moths up to
King Airs, DC3, high performance aerobatic aircraft, War
bird such as Mustangs, Spitfires etc all have a similar
frame to the E Type and similar grade steel to bicycle
frames are used. 4130 I think it is called.
Aircraft frames and engine mounts are X-rayed
periodically. MY POINT IS, find out from your local
General Aviation Airport or Airfield who does the aircraft
X-rays in your area and have your done if you are in
doubt.
