[E-Type] E-Type Interior

Hello to Shelly and others struggling with interior installation. I am mere
hours away from completing the replacement of the cockpit area carpeting and
hardura, and have learned the following (after removal of the old pieces)
for installation:

A) Sill covers and under foam is installed first.

B) If you are installing new fabric on the bulkhead behind the seats, this
would install next. I just cleaned mine as you can’t really see this with
the seats and center consol in place. I’ll probably regret not replacing
it…

C) The B-pillar covers can then be installed.

D) The under carpet felts should be installed along the sides of the
transmission tunnel, except for the piece on the right side of the
transmission tunnel, (the piece that fits just in front of the seat, and is
cut to fit over the transverse support that runs under the front of the
seat).

E) The end of foot well felt, first layer should be installed.

F) The top of foot well hardura mats should be installed.

G) The A-pillar side hardura mats should be installed.

H) The carpet should be installed to the transverse supports that run under
the front of the seats.

I) Install the remaining piece of side transmission felt left off in step
D. (it fits over the carpet piece installed in step H).

J) Install the Side transmission carpeting. The pieces towards the front
of the car–closest to the firewall, install first. Then the pieces that
stretch back to that transverse support.

K) Install the second layer of the end-of-foot well felt. (This is where I
currently am in the installation process)

L) Install the floor board felts. I will probably glue these in place.
they are also held in place by the carpet studs, but the glue will help them
form to the floor board recesses.

M) Glue in the end of foot well carpets.

N) Install the floorboard carpets. I’m not sure yet if I will glue them or
not. Probably not at first, I will see if they stay put as they fit in
fairly tight, and will be held with the studs (at the back, anyway. I don’t
think I can get the carpet to the studs at the front).

O) Install the under-seat hardura.

P) Install the center console, radio console, seat belts, seats, and
DRIVE!!!

I’m looking forward to step P, especially the last part. My winter project
has taken longer than planned. I have been fitting two or three parts at a
time as I go, just to make sure things fit properly. I’m not sure if Step M
should be done between steps F & G, but I am doing it as shown.

This is the best sequence that I have been able to figure out, but I am not
a professional car-restorer, so if anyone has something to add, please do
so! Also, please note that I am working on a Series I car, the Series II
and III cars may have some different things about the under dash or A pillar
mats that change the installation sequence.

Why , when I pull this url up e-bay say’s unknown item and displays nothing?

e-bay addresses always seem to wrap to the next line, but “highlight” only
the first line. check to see if there was more to the link on the second
line…

Could someone tell me how the carpeting/padding is installed on the side of
the tranny tunnel that has the two access holes for the tranny? My PO had
it installed wrong obviously as he’d glued down that whole piece as he never
bothered to install the two popits to secure the bottom into the new
flooring.

Does it just get glued at the top edge to the trans tunnel or does it
possibly secure to the center console?

Thanks

Hi All,

I am getting ready to install the carpet to the transverse supports that
run under the front of the seats.

Is it just gkued to the metal with nothing underneath?

How do you best get it to sit- glue the front and let it dry -then the top-
then the back?

Thanks,
