[E-Type] Engine and Gearbox assy balance

Following the Bentley book on engine/gearbox assy removal, it calls
for a jack being placed under the gearbox to support it when the
mounts come off.

Question…is the assy that tail heavy that if a jack isn’t used it
will drop to the deck??–

It’s just a lot easier to remove the plate without the weight
of the gearbox adding impetus to it, I use a piece of iron
pipe on my small trolley jack over the pin, remove the four
bolts then let the jack down without any drama…and with the
bulkhead mount removed…yes…it is tail heavy !!!pieces of
4x2 softwood come in handy…–

Les; As I was removing the engine I was able to balance the engine
fairly level by adjusting the chain placement. I wanted it level as
I was going to set it on a dolly and lift the frame over the
engine. My car has a auto transmission and I didn’t have a problem.
I figured out the balance before I removed the mounting brackets so
there was something to rest the engine on as I made changes. Just
how one guy works. Joel.–
