The story goes that the engine in my car “blew” shortly after being picked up from the dealer. The story also says that Jaguar replaced it with a 1966 engine replacement exactly as new but without the usual engine numbers.
I have seen a build date of 1966 stamped on the block. On the head there are several other numbers/letters that I have no idea what they are.
In the center of the head–where the plugs are–is the letter “N”.
Imbedded in the very rear top of the head is this----CK992.
Does anyone have any idea what these mean, and if this is, in fact, a genuine factory replacement engine/head?

Tom, might try contacting the archives in Mahwah. A long
shot but if the replacement was done by Jaguar, there may
be a record of it.
I have a stamping at the rear of the plug valley, V887.
Just a guess that it identifies the head in some way.–

Tom,
I have a stamping on my ''69 4.2 head at the back end of
the ‘‘valley’’ behind Cylinder #6 spark plug EW578 but I have
no idea what it means…if anything other than a
manufacturers mark for production process controls.–
