[E-Type] FHC front windshield glass replacement

Hello all in E-type world. I’ve recently aquired a 1965 E-type FHC
and as a first time poster, I am requesting some help. My local
glass supplier here in Toronto, Canada has quoted me $500 for a
front windsceen, installation extra. They said the item is no
longer made and had to be sourced in the states. Can you please
tell me:
1- What model years will fit my car?
2- Is the glass so rare?
3- How much should I expect to pay for the glass alone, no
installation?
4- Can any one in the Toronto area in specific, help me with a
local purchase?
Thanks in advance.–

Hi - there may be something in this post that could help
http://www.xj13.eu/XJ13/post/2010/07/06/Triplex-Laminated-
Windsceen.aspx

(copy and past ALL the link - even if it is spread over two
lines)

It is very likely your glass supplier will be sourcing the
glass from Pilkingtons (they have sites in the US & Canada).
You may find a saving by going directly to Pilkingtons and
cutting out the middle man?–

Welcome to the E-type dance! Hope you enjoy your new acquisition.
Alas I don’t know the answers to all of your questions but someone
here will. Windshields have been discussed many times. In any case a
'61-68 FHC all have the same body. I’ll let someone else confirm if
the '69-'71 cyl cars may have the same windshield.

I just purchased a windshield for my OTS. It was about $360. US, and another 120. or so shipping. It’s an easy install, since supported on only 3 sides, but the glass shop is charging $350. to install it. I’m letting them do it, (I installed the current one by myself) since it is an insurance job. It took almost 2 months to get it, broke it on a cross country trip.

I am sorry to tell you that , unlike the OTS where shape is not
quite so critical , the screen can be very difficult to install on
a FHC. There is a problem with some modern repro screens in that
the curcature does not match that of the car. On my recent FHC
rebuild we tried 3 new screens ( professional fitters) and I was
told when they eventually managed to get one in that it would be
likely to break in a short time because of the mismatch . I ended
up refitting my original screen rather than run this risk

As far as price is concerned , the 500 dollars ( Canadian?) does
not sound that expensive, but $350 for fitting may be topside,
although that is not necessarily the case if the price includes
refitting all the chromes–

it amazes me the crap some suppliers tell you. If it’s no longer
made how can he scource one?
1st, all 6cyl FHC’s use the same screen. They are made in South
Africa, Australia, England and I daresay the US.
In OZ I can get one supplied and fitted for $250.–

Well, they ARE made but not in Canada. Look here
http://www.xke-lovers.com/ and go to ‘’ The Usual Suspects
‘’. You have quite a population of E types in Toronto and you
will find this gang helpful. The Ontario Jaguar Club is also
worth considering. I am too far from Toronto in Sarnia to
join these clubs! Almost all of my parts come from the US,
and I ship to Port Huron, and then pick them up myself.if
you would more info, pm me.Good luck.–

Thanks for welcome and to all for your replies. I feel more
confident in my search for a windshield except for the experience
Christopher had with his install. I don’t have the option of
reinstalling mine as it was heavily damaged from vandalism. I guess
I’l have to hope and pray I ‘‘get luck’’ on the fitting of mine.–
