[E-Type] Fhc with sunroof

On eBay, there’s a lump with a Ford Cobra V8 and a sunroof. Item #
2417772928. I was not aware that there were E types with
sunroofs. I presume they’re uncommon, perhaps even rare? I
never thought I’d want one, but after having a car with a sunroof,
I really missed it when the next car didn’t have one, and now I
hate to be without. Best of both worlds - hard top, but with
filtered light and ventilation when needed, without the sun beating
down on a ‘‘follicaly challenged’’ head!

Is there such a thing as a reasonable conversion?–

Don’t know of any conversions, but I do know someone who has one for
sale, it’s a real beauty. If you’re interested, contact me offlist.

In reply to a message from Blacksmith sent Sun 1 Jun 2003:

‘Webasto’ sunroofs were fitted to E-Types during their currency.
Don’t know if they’re still available though. They were a fabric
(vynil?) sliding cover in an aluminum frame. The fabric was available
in matching colours, I think.

I thought that they were neat but I can’t imagine cutting the roof
so I guess I’ll do without on my E.

Know what you mean though. I wouldn’t have a daily driver these
days without a sun roof.–

Sun roofs were not that uncommon on the 2+2s. This was not a
factory option but one offered by Billy’s Chop Shop around the
corner from the Jag dealer who was desperate to add more mark up to
his cars. After-market air conditioning was also done by the
dealers. But not mud flaps.

I believe it was John Duhig that mentioned that Webasto is alive, well and had established an store front near his office in China. I agree with other comments here, this car was bodged. Even if you look at the picture you can see the front opening is not very smooth. Could be the photo but I don’t think so.
