[E-Type] Fitting OTS Door trim and sealing strips

In process of putting 66 OTS back together. The chrome trim
on the door holds a rubber sealing strip, the inside has a
fur strip, both to seal the window glass. On the outside,
the rubber strip is about 1/16’’ thick and the chrome trim
will not fit in the gap between the window frame and the
strip, same on the inside. New door skins were installed.
It appears as though I will have to trim the fur and rubber
piece where the chrome and inside strip meet the window
frame. Does the outer rubber piece cover the outer chrome
window support next to the windshield or is it trimmed
short. Same on the inside? See me waving my hands?–

Hi Gary,

I wonder if the new seals are a bit thicker than the ones
that came out. Is it possible for you to loosen up the
three screws that hold the top of the window frame and move
that inboard slightly until the trim piece will fit in.
Also the clips that attach the strip have barbs on the
inside which can interfere with the top of the door skin
edge, especially if the weld where it was skinned is too
thick. You might want squish the inner face of the clips
flat, and if doing so causes the seal to slip then run a
bead of cement along the trim piece to hold it in place.

That whole assembly can be a real pita. The hooked edge of
my trim piece needed to be carefully opened up to allow the
whole thing to sit neatly and not exert undue pressure
against the glass. My doors were skinned as well; not sure
if that’s why I had to modify them or not. Be VERY careful
to ensure that there are no clips that protrude and contact
the window at any point in the window cycle or it will put a
nice racing stripe up the glass. As me how I know.–
