[E-Type] front ball joints

Hi all,
Whilst the head is away being cleaned and checked I thought it a good time
to start on the front end of the car. I removed both front suspension assy’s
as complete units and commenced the refurbishment in my shed. All went well
cleaning off 31 years of grease oil and dirt but I did have some trouble
removing the upper and lower bushes. Well out came the blowtorch and with a
little acrid black smoke I had the old bush’s burnt out in no time. Not very
environmentally friendly though. I will need to get the new bush’s pressed
in at a machine shop.

I am also replacing the old style bottom ball joints with the new(er) XJ40
style, anyone else doing this beware, you’ll need to use shorter bolts to on
the base as it is a lot thinner than the old style and will foul the lower
arm in use. Also you need to tap out the old upper pivot ring ( hope thats
what it’s called)

If the weather holds I’ll be painting the engine frames this week, then for
the first time since I bought the car back in July last year I’ll actually
start putting stuff back together.
Yeah I know that this is when I find out how skilled I really am but I feel
as if I’ve reached that magic point of a complete rebuild where you can
actually start to see results.
I AM SICK TO DEATH OF CLEANING OIL AND GREASE OF EVERYTHING!
Ahhhh thats better.

Now, back to the shed. (workshop :^) )

cheers

I’m just doing the front end of PrtyKty. I used the old two socket and long
bolt method to push out the old rubbers (upper/lower A frames) and push the new
ones in. Just took a few minutes. Awaiting parts to complete the job.
LLoyd …BTW, the grease is terrible!! Think I’ll clean the other side
before I pull it off.
