E-Type Front License Holders

As Chip reported, sure enough, there has been a protest filed over the
fact that the E-Type Judges at the Vermont Biennial took off points for
cars which were missing their front license plate holders.

Any opinions out there regarding the validity of making that sort of
deduction? Granted, many cars have been shown without the holders and
have not received a deduction, but does the “practice set the standard”.
If a class has some cars “with” holders and others “without”, should
those “without” be penalized?

Were enough cars delivered without holders that an owner may plead that
it doesn’t have to be there?

Your inputs appreciated.

I don’t think I reported this. However, it was explicitly part of the
instructions given to the judges at the bienniel.

My understanding was that Jaguar delivered all US cars with front
license plate holders. It may be that dealers removed them before
delivery to customers in states that did not have front license
plates. (Were there such states in the 60’s? Where I was living at the
time – the northwest – all the states had front and rear.) Even so,
the dealer should have provided the owner with the hardware, in case
they moved someplace where they needed it.

We do allow outside mirrors and mandated safety additions such as seat
belts. But do we also want to accept cosmetic deletions? I suspect not.
This would be a good excuse to avoid having to replace lost hardware.
