[E-Type] greasing

I get the E up in the rear using the irs wishbones and using hard
wooden shims In the front I use assessible points on the picture frame.
I have a wooden piece that fits in the picture frame channel. Of course
I then use stands on all four corners. I prefer to get as much tension
off as possible so that upper ball joints take the grease. The ones on
the irs you just have to work with to get in between the exhaust pipes.
I have actually had to disassemble at the mounting points to be able to
get to these fittings.

At Canadian Tire do they still sell stocking caps with their symbol? I
wish I knew where to purchase? I am still a fan of the Mckensie Brothers
and have an autograph of Dave Thomas.

Yes, Canadian Tire probably still sells TOUQUES with their symbol, although
they are now into spring stuff. Amazingly enough, they also sell oil
filters for my E-Type (Crossland).

Am I wrong, or is this the most dangerous way to jack up the front? I can’t
put my hands on the reference just now, but I seem to have formed the strong
impression from reading somewhere that the picture frame is not structural
enough to bear the weight of the car, and that the front cross member (?)
should be used.

Warren

The picture frame IS the front cross member. You should never jack up under
the radiator support bracket.

Thank you, Daniel! Just one more proff that a little knowledge is a
dangerous thing. At least I knew there was one place in the front that you
shouldn’t jack up!

When I was looking for my car I came close to buying what appeared to be a
very reasonable OSB 67 2+2 from a dealer in Florida. We had several very
good telephone conversations, and he was about to send me pictures, when an
inexperienced helper jacked the car up by the radiator support bracket (you
can be sure I’ve got that now!) causing it to rise and dent the previously
flawless bonnet from the inside!

Warren
[Still a virgin in the E-Type jacking dept]

Folks -

I used this method on my E-types with not problem. The piece of wood
spreads the load across the entire cross-member on the pictures frame. Best
to use a hardwood though, e.g., not pine. Maybe pine would work OK
though – I’m not sure.

Cheers.
