[E-Type] Have I found a new source of failure

In reply to a message from abowie sent Wed 21 Oct 2015:

Agreed on the chain. I don’t think the orientation of the
conrod assemblies is critical as they are symmetrical. The
service manual (pp. B.31-.32) stresses the conrod and it’s
corresponding cap must be mated correctly (because they were
precisely machined for roundness as a matching pair) but it
does not say the conrod needs to be oriented per original
install, that is with cylinder numbers stamped on the exhaust
side as opposed to the intake side. Stand to be corrected,
though it does stand to reason the sensible option is to
orient them the way they were when the engine was originally
assembled.–
The original message included these comments:

In reality you’re never going to replace the bottom chain without
pulling the head off so the use of a split chain really confers no
benefit. WE don’t use them for that reason. If it were mine I
would replace it with a continuous one.

Holy sh!t !! That is a huge problem right there !!
