[E-Type] Hello from new guy on list

Hello, first post here.
I’m currently an xj owner (84 US spec VDP), it was purchased on a whim, and
I love it.

I bought a book on Jaguars, and decided my next car might just be an e-type.

This would be the 26th car I’ll have owned, and I do almost all of my own
wrenching. I’ve got more time than money. If I get one, it will get driven
more or less regularly, totalling about 6-10k miles per year. I’m not
excited about lumpers, but wouldn’t rule one out. Price tag needs to run
under 10k for me to pull this past the wife, and that will still require the
sale of most of my other vehicles.
I’d like the fixed roof coupe, but the 2+2 could certainly be accomodated
(I’ve got 4 kids!)

I did a quick price check on traderonline.com, and things seem to start
around $6500 (USD).

What do you think I should be expecting for the price range I’ve set? Or am
I totally off the mark?

I read also that the Jag bug doesn’t stop biting until you’ve got three.
I’ve only had my VDP for 2 months, and I already want another!

Thanks, and hello to all,

Tim,
Beep…Warning…
A $6k xke is a parts car, not suitable for restoration or driving (generally
speaking). It might get you a lump, with an automatic tranny, in a 2+2. But
realize, it will never be a “collector” and will not appreciate.

$10k will buy you plenty of quality time fixing stuff. Mechanically it is
fairly easy to work on, if you have experience, so go for a solid body above
all else. Parts are pricey though and with $10k as your starting point you
will get the opportunity to buy plenty of them.

Good Luck

Hi Tim and Welcome,
I didn’t see where anyone has yet steered you to this site, but Mark Hick’s
E-Type tips should give you a very well packaged insite on what to look (and
look out for) when shopping for an E. It will also give you values
throughout the range of E-Types. Let me know if you find this helpful or
not! You see, we’re keeping close tabs on Mark. Just kidding Mark! Go
