[E-Type] Hitachi alternator weirdness

I’m thinking about changing from my Lucas alternator, to the
Hitachi, and had my parts store order a 14231. The
alternator body is about an inch smaller in diameter than
the Lucas–which is very good for my 3.8–and the shaft
seems to be the correct diameter.

The weird part was that the shaft wasn’t long enough for any
kind of nut, with my double-V pulley on it. I suspect lots
of you have used this unit, so…???

The enclosed literature did say there were two possible
units, with the same #–Hitachi, or Mitsubishi, and based on
the drawings, this was definitely not the Hitachi. It also
said either should work.

Hmmmm, it just occurred to me that maybe this pulley which I
thought was from my generator, is not. I’ll have to check
on that. In the meantime, any ideas?

Thanks.

Thon:

Way back when, I had a little Hitachi alternator around
here. No use for it, though, just kinda liked it’s looks
and size.

I have never had an E Jag, and probably never will. My XJ
wuzza 6 keeps me busy!!

Suggestion: Rather than seeking to put a Jaguar generator
double sheave pulley on it, get a pulley that fits the
Hitachi. if it is a single sheave pulley and about the
right diameter, add a sheave. Tin or alloy can be welded.
CI, not so much, but, there might be a way…
