It should be very similar, if not identical to my 1970.
Buy a 6-pack and a 59 oz bottle of your favorite liquid
refreshments and set aside.
Remove the drivers seat.
Remove the inboard seat belts from the transmission
tunnel.
Remove, very carefully, the radio console. It is easy
to damage the console vinyl.
Place the handbrake in the on position, should be about
10-11 o’clock looking at it from the left side.
Carefully remove the console, rear side first.
Place the items purchased in step 1 in a safe place for
use during the reinstall process.
Good luck.–

Hi guys on my 69 series 2 FHC I’d like to remove the center
console to do some repair work on the vinyl but can’t

Any suggestions and recommendations would be much
appreciated.

This is a nice job to do while having a beer and listening to the radio.
Have a beer.
Slide both seats all the way foreward and locate the 2 bolts that hold the saet belts to the center tunnel.
Has a beer while you find dthe correct socket to remove them.
Remove them and hav a beer as you slide the seats back.
There am a shiny chrome dome nut on each side under and in front of hte speakerz which you remove, then beer a have.
Puell the speeker panels outward and down, rotating hte radio away from the console, ande have a bear.
Slid the radio slowwwly so you doesn’t scratch the console fabrik. Has another beer while you check and remove the radio power wire, antenna, beer and power tothe cigar lightning mechanizm.
7( Now cumz the hard part. Shift the shift lever of the shift lever into first gear. Pull the emergency break all the waaaaaay up into the up position, nd then havee aa beer.
rEmov the gear knob of the geer shift leverage, and sea if your beer is gitting emtified. yoU might need anothir at this teim.
9( noW, with sum luck, and a fresh beer, you can lift the console from the rear of the back, slowly up, ove them there geer shiftering leverage and emerginci break leverage shifter.
iF IT DOES NOT COM AOFF, IT IZ UZZULI A PROBLEM WITH THE EMERGINCI BRAEK LEVER NOT GOING UP ENOUGH HIGHER ENOUGH.

Earlier this year, I removed all the A/C equipment, replaced
the radio console and repaired the leather center console.
The responders are correct, try alcohol, then find a friend
with a Xanax prescription … some additional thoughts:
Does your car have factory A/C? IF so the radio console comes
out more easily, but I found the evap unit interfered with
swinging the center console around/out.
Remove the armrest first to get more /swing/ clearance.
Pull up it’s false bottom and remove 4 self-tapping screws.
Sliding the seats forward /will/ expose the rear
console/seatbelt
bolts, but I had to completely remove the LHD driver’s seat
to get enough clearance to swing the console out. Lift the
handbrake up further than you imagine you can. I think starting
with the shift lever in 3rd, then moving to 2nd while rotating
the console worked.
Lift up the console rear, start turning clockwise while
wrestling it up and off the shift lever and handbrake. I swore
it wouldn’t work and then, suddenly, it does.
Are you refinishing the vinyl center section or leather top
section? I also had /fun/ refitting the radio console after
replacing the leather. More on that if you’re interested.–

Andy,
Don’t let these guys scare you too much, I’ve had to remove
my console at least 5 times while installing my interior.
It’s pretty straight forward and the steps that have been
posted are the way I do it too.
One comment that get’s left out often is that the emergency
brake lever at times on some cars doesn’t lift high enough
to let the console fit past the gear lever. If that
happens to you, just loosen the flat head screws that
secure the emergency brake lever to the body underneath the
console, by lifting it up as far as you can to place a
large flat bladed screwdriver on the screws on the lever’s
bracket.
Another note - in my case which I suspect is due to my use
of the replacement aluminum console covering kit from SNBG,
the slot for the emergency brake lever is nearly too small
to let the top of the handle fit through. I have to tilt
the console and pop it through with a little force each
time. All in all, it only takes a few minutes once you know
the steps to take.
Good luck,–

Andy : the advice you have been given all comes from LHD cars
and states that it is the driver’s seat which is to be
removed. It is the Left Hand seat which has to be removed in
all cases . Since I think your car is probably RHD, in your
case it is the passenger seat which requires removal–

If the handbrake lever refuses to erect sufficiently, which given
the age of these cars should not be altogether surprising, it is a
simple matter of disconnecting the cable from the parking brake
actuator from below the car. This will always provide that extra
little bit of erection required to proceed with satisfaction,
although as already mentioned you may still need to do the boogy-
woogy with the console to get it past the knobby end of the lever.
I prefer a soothing merlot. Beer imho is not a suitable
lubricant, particularly if this is your first time. I remember my
first time with both fondness and a little embarassment, but I was
very much a novice and wasn’t aware of all the things one must do
ahead of time. Mustn’t rush, you know. If you are very familiar
with your E-type and are comfortable with your abilities you
probably need not resort to alcohol.–
