[E-Type] Installing new rollers in the seat rails. 70 2+2

My seats have not moved well for some time so I have tried to
fix them while doing the rest of the work.
Each rail has a top and bottom piece to it and both have
nipples or protrusions that keep the rollers in place. There is
one roller in the front and one in the back.
I pounded the nipples flat at the front and back of the bottom
part of each rail and removed the rollers. They were a ‘white’
nylon like material and a few had flat spots or were egg
shaped, some appeared 'normal.
I had eight new ones made out of a hard ‘plastic’ that was able
to be machined. The rollers need to be able to roll in the
upper part of the rail with out interference. each upper track
needs to tested with the rollers.
I drilled two holes where the nipples had been and tapped the
holes for 6-32 screws.
I made sure the screws were dressed on the under side so they
were flush with the rail.
I installed the rollers and put the screws in and installed the
seats and now enjoy the fore and aft movement as intended.

Make use of this info as needed, there may be a better way but
I have not found it.

Nice fix Hutch. What did you use for the new plastic
rollers? Delrin? I thought at one time I saw those rollers
for sale some where. But it’s been a long time and I
remember laughing when I saw them. I learned long ago they
were held captive by the raised dimples in the track. lol–

Brad;
I do not remember what they called it, the machine shop sent me
to a ‘plastic supplier’ to pick up the piece and return to the
machine shop for them to make the pieces. I will find out, my
mistake not knowing as that is important.
A couple of points. The radius of the out side edge has to be
significant as the edge of the top glide is not uniform and
true, there are a couple of high spots along one of the edges.
Also make sure the rollers will roll in the top section of each
rail, at least mine were not exactly the same. No greaase was
used on reassembly.
When I find out the name of the plastic I will post it.

Regards, Joel.–

Brad;
The new roller material is known as ‘MDS Nylon’. This stands for
molybdenum disulfide nylon as I understand it. I am told the
molybdenum acts as a lubricant and it machines nicely.
I had my rollers 0.49’’ wide and 0.49’’ in diameter.
