[E-Type] Is this work?

Hi guys,

I need information from you guys.
I’m restoring my 66 2+2. Did not come with engine or trans.
I found early 70’s XJ6 4.2 motor and planning to use.
Also, I found 4-speed transmission from 64 xke.
The gearbox number is EB 32xx.

Does this set up work for my 66 2+2? or do I need to find another 4-
speed trans for it? Please help before I purchase.

Thanks for your help. :D–

Well it would work but it is the old Moss gearbox which is
incorrect for post 1964 cars, and is nothing like as pleasant to use

You need a gearbox with an EJ, KJ, or KJS number. These are all
variants of the all synchromesh box, and probably a KJS is correct
for your car, although aa will work–

Sashi,
A little out of my element here but believe the 2+2 cars require a
tranny with a a long tail housing because the car is longer. That
would not be available on a Moss box. Need to get a synchro box from
a 2+2 car. The XJ6 4.2 motor will fit just fine.

Hi Sashi,

Check with the 5speeds.com folks. These guys are very knowledgable
on this subject and offer 4 to 5 speed conversions with little or
no consequential mods. Although, it adds to the cost, this might be
a good opportunity to go with a 5speed tranny, anyway.
My advice don’t purchase that tranny!–
