[E-Type] IT'S ALIVE!

After 35 years of sitting abandoned and 2 months in my care
it runs. Not just starts up mind you, but it runs!!
Coolcat radiator and fan, downpipe painted black, small pipe
plated, 3 gallons of oil (roughly), rebuilt fuel pump,
replaced fuel lines, gallon milk jug full of gas in the rear
and she runs!!

Got her up to temp… hmm… I’m calling the '66 her…
anyway, thermostat opens, fan kicks on , oil pressure at
20ish idle and 30 ish at higher revs (revs unknown, waiting
on clock), stuff burning off, SMOKING WORSE THAN A TWO
STROKE out of the left pipe (as viewed from the rear) but
for an engine that was frozen 2 months ago not unreasonable,
alternator is making rattling sounds.

Now it’s time to figure out how to get the clutch slave cyl
off and see if the tranny etc. works, I can handbrake it for
a while…

DOH!!

I realized that the vacuum lines to the brakes are not
connected so there may be a bit of a vacuum leak, heh…

WHEEEEEEE!!!

Ummm… I hate to say this… but 3 gallopns of oil is waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much, you will blow out oil seals. 9 quarts is safe, it will run fine on 8.

Now occurs everywhere, simultaneously. But it doesn't have to be

experienced the moment it happens. Every now that ever was is still exactly
when it was, when it was now. Then, in terms of perception, is nothing more
than all the nows that are no longer now. Thus, the difference between now and then is when.

Wayne, I had about half a tank of 20+ year old gas and being a tree hugger, I decided to try to find out how to dispose of it in an environmentally friendly manner. I called all over , EPA, etc. and no one had any idea what to do with it. You would have thought that I was trying to dispose of nuclear waste! I finally ended up putting small amounts of it in used oil for recycling. If I touched any of it my hands smelled for a week.

G’Day Lester,
I get forum digests and come late to the table so you may have been told
this already. There is a fish hook to catch the unwary in the engine. The
dip stick goes through a smallish hole in a sheet of steel in the sump. It
only needs a tiny bend in the stick for it to slide sideways along the top
of the steel sheet instead of dipping down through the hole into the oil.
If this happens it takes a lot more oil to register on the stick. Fill from
empty with the exact amount of oil in the manual and if this does not come
up to full on the stick “it is bent”. :-))
