[E-Type] Jaguar Rites of Passage,1969 E-Type Coolant Hose Replacement {Scanned}

In reply to a message from emalossi@austin.rr.com sent Tue 29 Mar 2005:

I can relate to the difficulty installing E-Type hoses, although I
have never actually changed one myself on an E-Type.

I have, however, changed out the lower rad hose on an xk140, and it
is truly a real pain in tha a**. Its only a short hose with a 90
degree bend…looks real easy to install. However, the pipes onto
which the hose is to be installed are so close to one another that
one has to bend the hose almost double while trying to force it
over the pipes. Its no fun when your hands are grassy and slippery
with dripping antifreeze, and you are lying on your back trying to
reach up into a contorted confined space with junk falling into
your eyes.
In desperation I had to remove the other already newly installed
hoses, and then partially remove the rad to get the hose on, and
also in desperation I had to cut off about 1’’ of the hose to make
it fit. So now it just barely fits over the rad pipe, and being 1’’
too short now, isnt very securely clamped in place. I just hope it
doesnt blow off in a big gush of steam and boiling water if the
darn car ever heats up too much.
Oh well, at least its easier than undoing and changing out the
oddly located frame-mounted rear junction fitting connecting the
rear steel brake line to the rear flex brake line.–

Gary,
Apparently Jaguar liked that arrangement because that’s the way I would describe
the bottom hose on my car.
