The rebuild kits contain a little piece of white teflon/plastic in the
shape of a parallelogram packaged with 2 brass rings. Can’t find any
references to it. What is it???
This material is what was used as the throttle shaft bushings on the
4.2’s

HI Pat the two little Tefelon bits are the throttle shaft
bearings which are installed on each side if the shafts within the
carb housing .When you dismantle the throttle shafts you will
encounter some similar items although they may be fish paper kinda
reddish in color. The brass rings are used to keep the bearings
from walking back out after installation . Always keep a drop of
oil on the shafts so the bearings do not bind up the shafts.—GNB–

Pat,
Can you let us know what kit you have and where you got it?
The reason I ask is that the ‘‘original SU’’ kits sold by Burlen and
others do not have the teflon pieces and instead supply a brass
bush with a teflon lining impregnated. This sounds good but you
have to line-bore the existing carb bushes in order to fit them.
That’s the ugly part. It would be nice for those who aren’t up to
line boring to have an alternative kit to the orignal SU ones.
This all being said, I have no idea if one bush is better than the
other.

HI Richard, I have heard this before it seems that some people
just can’t leave wellenough alone. Some who have these kits have
misinterpreted the instructions the type reamer required produces a
line bore in the carb body for the throttle shafts. If this is not
achieved you are in big trouble, thanks for bringing it up for
discussion-GNB–
