[E-Type] Louver spoilers?

Would anyone have an idea as to the purpose behind what appear to
be spoilers in front of the E’s louver’s in this vid? To help pull
hot air out perhaps? Certainly destroys the look. Best seen about
9 seconds in.

You’re right, it spoils the look, but I’ve seen comparable
pieces of plastic on many Ford Explorers and vans. It’s
supposed to deflect air (and rain and bugs) up and off the
windshield.
I suppose they would also create a low-pressure area above
the louvers and help extract hot air.–

I agree that it doesn’t look quite right on a stock E Type but I
think it looks pretty cool on a race car.
I had been contemplating putting one on my 71 bonnet and had
forgotten about until your recent post.

Le Mans, like the Isle of Man, involves long races through
countryside early and late in the day when bugs swarm.
They ruin visibility in low sun early or late. It’s
designed to throw bugs over the driver’s line of sight
part of the screen. Not needed for short circuit rades. I
wear flies as a badge of pride in summer. A dense
smattering betokens a great drive…as it does on the IOM
or La Sarthe.

At times the number of bug splats can have the same effect as
driving in a snow storm at night.

I wonder how well they would work with the spring love bugs in the
south.

Some years ago I was told good way of getting bugs off the car -
particularly the chromework after long drives. Apparently Johnsons
Baby Oil, polished into the surface until dry prevents bugs from
sticking hard.

Most people who know me think I’m a little weird for spending so
much time in an E-type (’‘it’s only a car and an old one at that’’)
but I have never been brave enough to reinforce their suspicions by
walking into the garage with a bottle of baby oil and some towels!

Instead I use the same method on my E as on my motorcycle helmet
for removing bugs. I place a wettened paper towel over the affected
area and leave it for a few minutes. Once the bugs are softened
enough they wipe away easily. Works for windscreens, bonnet
leading edges as well as chrome work and helmet visors.
