[E-Type] LSR Car - When, Where, lets all meet there

This seems like a once in a life time opportunity to be a part of a world
class event.
I can imagine an event held around the breaking of the speed record that
rivals any car show ever held in the US. Hundreds of E-types lined up waiting
to see the crowning moment as “Dan-Dan the Rocket Man” breaks the record.

I know we will all be following the progress of the car with great interest
and would love to help, but most of us don’t have the technical expertise.
We all know that this will be along process preparing the car. If we knew
where the attempt was going to be made, maybe some club or lister in the area
would be willing to put together an event to celebrate this historic
occasion. I know I would be there, and it also might give some of you a goal
to complete your cars and show them off at the event.

PS - If we could get Pascal to come, he might set his own land speed record
getting there. That way I can follow him on my way by about 1/2 mile and not
worry about ending up under the jail for speeding.

I’ve planted the seed, let’s see if it grows.
( no help on the car, but if you need a new shop to build it or a garage for
it, I’m your man)

I’ve been thinking the same thing. Being retired I actually can break away the
time, probably. And I can turn a wrench.
Can’t ya just see me dropping a bolt down the intake manifold… LLoyd

Hi Doug:

What a great idea. The only downside I see to your cunning plan is the
amount of pressure such a gathering would place upon the shoulders of the
poor old driver. Blowing a head gasket at 55 mph would lead to a lifetime
of abject misery and embarrassment

Just kidding - I think you have an awesome idea.

As to where and when: probably at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah,
although we have been investigating the possibility of making the attempt
at the old Austin airport. Austin now has a fancy new international
airport, and the old airport would make for an interesting (and rather
convenient) venue.

When? This depends upon some sponsorship issues currently under discussion.
If we can get some appropriate sponsorship, the attempt could be made in
the fall of 2000. Without sponsorship, the attempt is unlikely to take
place before the summer of 2001.

It would certainly be an amazing sight, a couple of hundred E Types and
their owners gathered together, lining a runway with another E Type passing
between them at a speed approaching 200 mph!

I will keep the list posted as the project continues to develop.
