[E-Type] main bearings

The bearing shells for my 4.2 crankshaft have one half that has a center
groove that runs the lenght of the bearing. The other half of the bearing
does not have this groove. Does the half with the groove go in the block side
or the bearing cap side… or does it not matter? TIA

does one of them have an oil hole. If so it goes on the
block for oiling to the bearing.**************************************

David, Each bearing half has two oil holes. Though the factory manual does
not specify which way they are to be inserted, it would seem that the bearing
half with the longitudinal groove might be best placed on the block side
where the oil initially enters the bearing area. Maybe Dan, Terry or Tom have
some thoughts on this.

I consulted with another mechanic friend of mine and we both
believe that the grooved side goes on the block section.**************************************
