My 73 V12 OTS has two switches on the dash for ‘‘Map’’ and ‘‘Interior’’
lights.
Are they actually fitted to the OTS or are these switches merely
carryovers from the FHC? If so where?
On the S1 and S2 cars they are real. The map light switch lights the
bulb under the center of the dash pad and the interior switch lights the
lamp in the rear bulkhead wall that is only visible if the hood is up or
the boot is open.
Not familiar enough with an S3 to say they retained those lights.

“Map” is in the top-middle of the dash, up under the lip. The “Interior”
light is on the back deck, obscured by the folded top. It is pretty much
useless.
I used the latter as my “radiator fan” switch for a while.
I can grab some photos if you need them.

The map light on my S2 is just a naked bulb in a cheap
holder. Should it have a diffuser or something around it ?–

Sounds like you’ll be investing in a parts manual soon Philip…
If you are into ‘‘upgrades’’, then fit a couple of mercury tilt
switches - one to the left boot hinge and one to the convertible
top left hand side upright. That way, the interior light can only
come on if you open the boot (it illuminates it) or if the top is
up. If the top is down, it obsures the light and some people have
succesfully drained their batteries by leaving the light on without
realising.
The map light comes on when either/both of the doors are opened or
by its own steam (via the Lucas made switch)–

Philip - The switches are real…The map light is under the dash
crash pad in front of the gauge panel and the interior light is in
back at the base of the convertible top, in the center.–

It is what is known in the UK as a Festoon bulb. These are about 1
inch long, a symmetrical glass tube with tapering ends and a metal
cap on each end which acts as the conductor–

There are two different bulbs being described here I think.
Mine has, like George, a miniature 12v with a bayonet cap
single contact, whereas a previous poster and the image
shown, was for a festoon bulb which is an elongated bulb
with contacts at either end.
Maybe they changed the type of fitting during the production
run ?–
