[E-Type] My new Jag

Hello All,

The first item on my agenda as the NO (new owner) of this car is to fit a new
clutch, as the present one is slipping, worse by the day. (This was a known
detail prior to my even going to see the car.)

I’m contemplating taking advantage of Dan Mooney’s May Special and putting in
a lightened flywheel as long as the engine and tranny will be down. I’d be
grateful if any of you who have done this modification would share your
experiences pro or con with me to help me make up my mind. As you should
know (I’ve made no secret about it :-), I plan to drive this car a lot, and
will be using it for SCCA Autocross and JCNA Slalom events. My first big
outing with the car will be the Empire Jaguar club’s Lime Rock weekend at the
beginning of June.

Thanks,
Warren

We love the Dan Mooney Flywheels. Also since the whole assembly will be
apart this would be a good time to replace the front and rear seals of your
4 speed transmission.
Thanks,
Paul

Why exactly do you love them, Paul? What can I expect if I do it, and what
(if any) problems am I likely to have when I’m using it as a street car?

Thanks,
Warren

The engine just seems to come alive with the lighter wheel. It becomes much
more responsive. They idle just fine, and I have not seen any problems or
drawbacks in any way.
Thanks,
Paul

Do a “while the engine is out” list before you pull it. Be assured
there will be more things added to the list as you physically inspect,
clean, paint and replace/rebuild.
One often overlooked item is the starter. At a MINIMUM, disassemble
and clean it. Chances are the coil (field) is oil soaked and shorting.
