Benny, thanks for that clever pic. I just posted an ad on eBay and
could have used it on my listing for the single free pic!
Shipper has phoned me direct - previous info was secondhand from my
wife. Some changes:
Cars were still at shipper’s facility, or more correctly, the
shipper’s agent’s local facility in Cambridge. Arpin International
are a big US firm but they clearly used a local agent in the region
to store my stuff. The agreement was the cars were to stay under
cover.
Cars were outside. Allegedly just for that night prior to shipping
and because they needed to move some stuff around in the warehouse
(?)
There is CCTV footage apparently that has gone to the police. No
idea if the theft is on there. Arpin directors are involved in
chasing this, allegdly. Supposed to be calling me tomorrow. Worst
theft they have ever had. Of course being overseas it costs me to
receive their call It certainly does smell like an inside job
at the agent. The guys who packed all my garage stuff were a motley
crew, so even loose talk in the pub could have tipped a thief off
(‘‘We were at some guy’s barn yesterday on a great job. We’re
storing two nice E-tytpes’’)
The OTS is still insured with my normal UK insurer and I was only
going to notify them and take it off-risk once it had actually left
the country. I do not wish to get into a tug-of-war between
shipper’s insurers and my insurers, nor do I expect to be paid
twice. What is the legal view on liability anyone?
I have had motorcycles stolen before, recovered one. Not a new
feeling. Someone much cleverer than me once suggested not storing
up treasures here where moths and rust corrupt and thieves break in
and steal. Thankfully, I subscribe to that view and can be sanguine
about it all, but there really was no rust on these
I have put a notice in all the places I can think of. The eBay ad
is here: http://tinyurl.com/7dtxxtg
I would love everyone who can think of any other spots to go right
ahead and put a notice up there themselves. It is kind of
comforting to know that with due notice posted on XKEData.com, the
only way those cars will ever appear legitimately in public will be
if I amend the recods there. But we all know how easy it is to
transfer an identity illegally, so there is scope for them to
appear dishonestly under other numbers.
