[E-Type] My TWO E-types stolen last night

Just got a call from the shippers. My OTS and the FHC went from
their storage facility to the UK port of Felixstowe yesterday and
were stolen last night from the container. Ploice involved etc.

Needless to say, I am puttingo ut an APB to every E-type crowd I
know in case anyone sees or is offered a scruffy but super-solid
standard FHC, or my blue OTS with Getrag and S1 centre dash panel
etc.

It’s only posessions, nobody got hurt, and there will be some
insurance cover but not really for the true worth to me personally
and I’d much rather have the cars back than the money. 1R7977 and
1E33100, both on XKEData.com with pics etc.

Keep your eyes out folks please.

Thanks

In reply to a message from PeterCrespin sent Thu 28 Jun 2012:

Please also pass the message below to any local Jaguar club website
or bulletin boards you know of worldwide. The cars were stolen from
a busy port so may be on their way anywhere. This could be an
opportunity to harness the power of the internet and ‘going viral’
to make the cars unsaleable and hopefully detectable by alerting
the whole Jaguar community worldwide.

I don’t have my JEC card available and don’t know my number, so if
someone could put the info on the JEC (and JDC?) web sites that
would be great, thanks.

Pete,
I’m so sorry, I had a truck stolen once and that was bad
enough, but this is sickening. I hope they’re recovered in
good shape. I’ll be on lookout.
Best of luck,

Pete;

WOW, awful news. All kinds of emotion flares, not the pleasant ones
of course. Sadness and anger primarily.

Five thoughts:

  1. Declared value on the Bill of Lading.

  2. Bailment for hire makes the shipper absolutely bound by law,
except for the exculpatory language in the shipping socuments.

  3. Reeks of an inside job. Courtesy oif the instincts gained in my
    prior profession.

  4. They are bound for countries of limited law on board vessels of
    questionable repute.

  5. They are still in the UK in a chop shop.

I too will see what I can do to help. I belong to the usual Jag

accept posting like this. I hope you can recover them in the same
condition as when they were taken.

Sorry to hear of this Pete.

A couple of thoughts;

  • Port security cameras.

  • Was the container taken or the cars removed from it? If they
were removed, someone in the area would surely have noticed 2 E’s.
If it was the container, they can be traced by method of shipment
    and destination.

I once had a car stolen. It certainly leaves an empty feeling.–

In reply to a message from BTR sent Thu 28 Jun 2012:

Benny, thanks for that clever pic. I just posted an ad on eBay and
could have used it on my listing for the single free pic!

Shipper has phoned me direct - previous info was secondhand from my
wife. Some changes:

Cars were still at shipper’s facility, or more correctly, the
shipper’s agent’s local facility in Cambridge. Arpin International
are a big US firm but they clearly used a local agent in the region
to store my stuff. The agreement was the cars were to stay under
cover.

Cars were outside. Allegedly just for that night prior to shipping
and because they needed to move some stuff around in the warehouse
(?)

There is CCTV footage apparently that has gone to the police. No
idea if the theft is on there. Arpin directors are involved in
chasing this, allegdly. Supposed to be calling me tomorrow. Worst
theft they have ever had. Of course being overseas it costs me to
receive their call  It certainly does smell like an inside job
at the agent. The guys who packed all my garage stuff were a motley
crew, so even loose talk in the pub could have tipped a thief off
(‘‘We were at some guy’s barn yesterday on a great job. We’re
storing two nice E-tytpes’’)

The OTS is still insured with my normal UK insurer and I was only
going to notify them and take it off-risk once it had actually left
the country. I do not wish to get into a tug-of-war between
shipper’s insurers and my insurers, nor do I expect to be paid
twice. What is the legal view on liability anyone?

I have had motorcycles stolen before, recovered one. Not a new
feeling. Someone much cleverer than me once suggested not storing
up treasures here where moths and rust corrupt and thieves break in
and steal. Thankfully, I subscribe to that view and can be sanguine
about it all, but there really was no rust on these :frowning:

I have put a notice in all the places I can think of. The eBay ad
is here: http://tinyurl.com/7dtxxtg

I would love everyone who can think of any other spots to go right
ahead and put a notice up there themselves. It is kind of
comforting to know that with due notice posted on XKEData.com, the
only way those cars will ever appear legitimately in public will be
if I amend the recods there. But we all know how easy it is to
transfer an identity illegally, so there is scope for them to
appear dishonestly under other numbers.
