[E-Type] NAPA 1183 Oil Filter

Has anyone tried this oil filter? I got one as the
designated replacement for Crosland. It’s very well made
however, when I placed it in the canister there is only
about 1/8’’ or less clearance between the outside of the
filter and the canister. This filter has about 1/4’’ wider
diameter than the Crosland and I’m afraid that the added
width might restrict the normal flow and cause it to operate
in either bypass or oil starve the engine.–

Michael!
I always use terrysjag.com filter for my 69, but should fit
your canister.

This shouldn’t be a problem, but I’ll tell you how to get comfortable
with it. Measure the inside diameter of the outlet orifice in the
filter head (This is the center hole). Calculate the area of this
hole…pi r squared (call this A). Next, measure the outside diameter
of the filter and calculate the area (call this B). Next, measure the
inside diameter of the filter and calculate the area (call this C).
If C-B > A, you won’t have a restriction.

I’ve always used the Crosland, saw no reason to change. Green box, two
filter head gaskets that I never use, since the one in the head works great.
Anyone need any of those filter head gaskets, O rings? Get them out of my
garage and into yours.

I’ve only ever used the UAP/Napa filters on my car and
never had a problem. Then again I’ve never measured the
filter.–
