[E-Type] New heater motor and fan wheel (recurring subject)

So while I have the car in the garage for the Winter doing a
bunch of ‘little’ things before Spring, I wanted to upgrade
the fan to go with the new heater core, crossover pipes and
water valve. I checked the E-type previous threads, to find
that an '85 Fiero motor was the way to go. I did a little
more research and found that the ‘91 S-10/S-15 Sonoma had a
motor and fan that would also work. The local parts store
had a ‘91 Sonoma motor and fan for $45. I spent the day
putting in the new motor/fan… It puts out about twice the
air, and fit with minimal housing adaption. It is by far the
best way to do it if you the fan in from the bottom, with
the housing out of the car. You only have to enlarge the
hole for the fan by about 1/4’’ dia. It is a good time to put
in a new heater core. I know it is an old story about the
new motor and fan. (but) there is a rumour out there that
the '85 Fiero motor/fan is not available in some places…It
could just be the fan that is NLA…not sure.–

I bought a new Fiero fan/motor from Rock Auto on online for
$35 (P/N 88960338) and although not yet installed it appears
to be a good choice. And yes, it does cross to several
other GM models.–

I installed the squirrel cage and motor from a Honda in mine
and hid the five position switch in the radio knob. On high
it just about lifts the dash top off. I had to enlarge the
opening by a mm or two to fit the squirrel cage.–
