[E-Type] No Idle under 1000 PRM

Hi Listers,

I started my '69 up for the first time since doing some major work this
winter (rebuilt head, both Stombergs, and brake master and slave
cylinders). Being a reasonably competent novice mechanic, I did the work
myself by the book. The car started right up but would quickly die if I
tried to set the idle below 1200 RPM. After playing with the timing, I was
able to get the idle close to 1000 and set the timing correctly. At 1000 the
engine run very rough and seemed to miss. Above 1500, the engine sounds very
strong and smooth.

I would appreciate any ideas on this problem. I did a quick check for vacuum
leaks but need to be more thorough. My car has a 22D distributer (no vacuum
advance) with a Petronix ignition. I have a new coil and wires, but like the
Petronix, they were installed last summer with the car running well.

Any help would be appreciated, Ron '69 OTS

Sure sounds like a vacuum leak.**************************************

Sure sounds like a vacuum leak. Or a serious clog on the carb needles
(very unlikely). Could it be choking itself to death? Probably not.
