[E-Type] NOS vs " new" panel prices

In reply to a message from E type Mike sent Mon 26 Oct 2015:

Mike, Well I guess YOU might see it as a collector piece…
you collected it! Converting that to a sale and cash in hand
is another matter!? I have a slew of NOS MR panels complete
with MR label that came from my PO ( so must be 20++ years
old ). I have posted them on JCNA and also here on J-L and
never a bite!–

I found a boot floor, new old stock, in my collection of
body panels. Still has the BMC sticker on it.
Is it a collector piece? ie is it going up in value faster
than the one I could buy today?

As I recall…
The “new” panels are stamped from the old, original molds. Since the molds are so old, the panels are a bit “off”, but a bit of fretting eliminates any problems. Hence, I see no intrinsic extra value in the old ones.
Ain’t that so??

Mike,
I doubt it will ever be a collectors item. My view is that
e-type clientel are more used to having repros offered,
and use that frequently as source for getting parts
otherwise unobtainable. It’s a matter of pragmatic choice,
hence the similiar value to nos. I assume customers of
other marques like Porsche or Mercedes are very more
willing to pay more for original parts, they might not
have that level available repros offered. Just my idea.

The first thing that I noticed when I bought my new repo trunk pan
about 6 years ago was that the area where the tire hold-down is
threaded was different (improved). It had a hole in the bottom so
fluid could drain out of it. My original did not have this hole.
If your panel did not have the hole and your price was relatively
close to the repos, I would have tried to buy yours first. - Chris–

Mike, I suggest you call RM restorations in Chatham and
offer to sell it to them. If anyone has a client who might
is totally anal about originality it will be them.–
