[E-Type] oh what a ride!

first post on list to which I subscribed about 3 weeks ago, sorry if it gets
a litlle lenghty but I am still under the influence… of an 8 hour drive
from Atlanta to Miami on saturday in the 72 2+2 i picked up there.

And after all, this site is one of the reason why I got an E type. Not only
because of the huge amount of information I found which made the decision
and selection much easier but also since I found the car right here on the
list. Remember Joel Watson’s post last week, about Giles needing a new home
? After a month of searching, and looking at a lot of overpriced, overly
positive description that didn’t match the real state of the car, I was
confident about this one and the phone conversation i had with Joel was very
honest, no surprises when I got there. Sure it’s not perfect and there are
a few things that I will need to do but altogether it seems very solid. As
far as performance… ( I cant’ go into details for legal reasons… ) let
me just say that most people on I 75 saturday didn’t get to enjoy looking at
it for long… no I didn’t get pulled over and I do not use radar detectors

The fact that was able to search the archives and go thru the seller’s post
over the past 2 years to learn about problems and fixes was a terrific
ressource. Thank you to the site and it’s administrators !

it had been probably over 10 years since I had fun driving, and it doesnt
even compare to what I experienced before. Not that my other car, a 96 XJ6,
isn’t great but it just doesnt compare. The noise, sorry… the melody,
of the V12, its smell, the steering sensations, the suspension that doesn’t
isolate you from the road but lets you feel every little crack in it, the
speed boost into … digits when you only caress the throttle and of course
the view over the bonnet and its georgeous curves… wow this is driving…

the only flaw is the auto transmission which in my opinion doesn’t belong
in such a car. It’s working fine but I can’t imagine what it must be like
to drive this car with a standard… that’s an upgrade I am already looking
into.

well, that’s all for now, I will certainly have a lot of questions in the
future and look forward to becoming an active participant on the list.

Have had my 72 2+2 for 8 years, and the excitement has
never left. You are correct about the auto trans lacking the
thrill of a manual, but nothing is perfect. Drove ours from
Roanoke, Va to Stowe, Vermont and never felt better in
any other car. Look forward to hearing more of your
excitement as you grow more in love with your new lady.

What did you name her by the way???

Wow… almost exactly 20 years since my first post here and since I got my E-Type. Time flies, doesn’t it?

The fact that I was able to quickly find the thread and reply to it 20 years later is proof of what an incredible resource JL is… especially considering that back then it was an email list! Poeple like George, Tony, Gunnar etc. some have moved on but JL is still here.

Looking forward to another 20 years…

And got to love how the time stamp on my previous replies says “20 years later”!

And who says time travel is impossible?

Very cool.

So, did you convert it to manual ?

And are you planning on joining us on the ECOL?

Yes, we should all remember what the world was like when Windows 98 SE was the newest OS.

…And when typing the word subscribe would bounce the post off the list !

I don’t know if we can make the ECOL. Our schedule is always up in the air till the last minute.

I indeed converted it to a T5. I ordered the kit from Classic Jaguar the next day, back then Dan was selling Paul Cangialosi’s kit and it was installed a few weeks later. Fast forward 20 years and Paul rebuild it and upgraded it a few months ago while I had the engine rebuilt and the car restored

Remembering your posts about your recent renovation, your post threw me off a little until I discovered that it was 20 years old.
Hope you can make the ECOL. I’m signed up and even if rain is in the forecast, i’ll be there. Albeit in the F-type.
Cheers … Ole

We all get it.

I first experienced owning a '64 E in HS in '74. I owned it til '80. I’ve missed it ever since… til I picked up my '66 last October. I’m older now but the smile on my face is the same silly grin I had in HS.

We think we’re all grown up. We’re not. We just move up to more expensive and totally unnecessary toys - that put silly grins on our faces.

I’m now looking for a totally unnecessary and irresponsible XK140.

I cringed when I heard that in 6 years all cars sold in Norway will be electric. It doesn’t sound like there will be a lot of gas stations around. I fear that the end is near unless our cars are converted to electric. Maybe the kit that was developed will come down in price or maybe all the old cars will end up in museums or just disappear. Impossible? When was the last time you saw a horse walking down the street?

To stretch your metaphor you can still buy hay for your horse at
many speciality shops…

Congratulations! Yet, there is a phrase frequently used here. With no pictures, it never happened…

Pascal, a few photos of your car at the Charleston, SC car show back in 2002.

Thanks Craig!! I attended many concours back then. Charleston, Columbia etc

I ll have to look but I don’t think I have any pictures during the ride back to Miami. Back then I don’t even think phones had cameras :frowning:

I wonder how much coal and oil they must consume per vehicle and year to produce enough electricity to charge all the electric cars ?

23 years today that I flew to Atlanta to look at my series 3 and drove it home to Miami… 23 years of fun!

This is what it looked like then… time flies

First picture, on the green grass was at the Jag Lovers picnic in New Jersey, in 2001 or 2002. Anyone remember these? Second one was at the track day in Limerock around the same years
