[E-Type] Oil filter conversions

List,
I just bought one of Terry’s oil filter conversions, and tried installing it
today. (Sorry, John, I forgot to check your site and now realize I paid too
much - oh, well)

I must be doing something wrong, since after the installation, I started the
car and promptly pumped a quart of oil out onto my garage floor. Despite
several attempts at re-installation, and making sure everything was tight,
it still leaked copious amounts of oil. I finally gave up and just put the
old canister filter back on.

Anybody have any experience with the Terry’s unit and can tell me what I’m
doing wrong?

Other than this one problem, it’s been a very productive weekend. I
finished installing new front hubs, bearings, brake rotors, and Dan’s
Willwood calipers; adjusted the bonnet to get rid of a slight misalignment
that’s bothered me for 3 years; and had a couple of nice drives to test my
new brakes. At first, the brakes don’t seem much different than the stock
brakes did, but when they warm up a little, WOW!--------------------------------------------

I’m sorry Lee, That was cruel and unusual punishment! I wound up cleaning
copious amounts of oil off my own garage floor today and it was a pain in the
arse! It wasn’t even from the Jag. Now my wife is on me about using HER
washing machine to clean the towels I used to clean the Valdez spill. At
least you got SOMETHING good accomplished!

Perhaps the gasket between the block and adapter? I had no problem
with mine. Did you put oil on the gasket between filter and adapter?

Yep, I dipped my finger in the old oil and spread it evenly over the gasket
on the filter. I also made sure the oil filter was not warped, and was
sealing evenly against the adapter. Besides, this is a major leak, not just
a little drip, drip, drip. I started the engine, and in the time it took
me to get out and peer under the car to look for leaks there was about a
half quart on the floor.

Now my cat won’t talk to me - I had to use the last of her kitty litter to
soak it all up.
