[E-Type] Parts Washer?

How do you people who do this professionally get parts clean? I am in the
process of rebuilding my SUs and cant seem to get all of the dirt and crud
off of all the little bits and pieces. Also, how do you go about polishing
the bare metals? Is this where all the discussion about the buffing wheels
fit in?

Carb cleaner comes in a gallon can with a metal basket inside. put part in for
twenty minutes or less and pull them out clean as a whistle.

I’m not a professional, but I’ve found that with a little jiggering you can
get the SU carb bodies into one of those gallon cans of carb cleaner
available at any auto parts store. Left in overnight they seem to come out
perfectly clean. Nasty stuff though…

As for more general purpose cleaning and buffing, in the harbor freight
flier I got yesterday they have both a parts washer and a buffer/grinder on
sale right now for $90-100. The parts washer is your basic metal tub with a
small pump to circulate cleaning fluid:

The buffer/grinder looks like it might be an interesting compromise between
paying $300 plus for a Baldor buffer, and trying to convert a standard
grinder:

(Usual disclaimer, have no connection to Harbor Freight other than spending
lots of money there…
