Chuck, the pleasure was all mine! After so long of talking
to you via email and the horn, it was a great, grand
pleasure to talk ‘‘en vivo’’ for the few hours we did! Your
wit and commentary on ‘‘Tweeety’’ is fun to read! The car’s
the star and as you know now, it’s had an…interesting life!
And, tell Christopher that whatever I did/say/do to make’m
laugh…I’ll remind himm of it later!..
Look forward to the next visit! Maybe the ol’ boy’ll have
his new, shiny coat of ‘poiple’ paint and a windshield, so
yo, too, can go sideways on my dirt road!
BTW, is it just me, or does the first pic NOT work as a
movie link? I also can’t get the lower one to work
either…grrrr!!! Am I gunna hafta go back out in the cold
and start Tweets up just so I can hear it again?..!!!–

They are movie files in QuickTime format, so you would need the QT
software to make them work. I can convert them into MPEG and put
another link up there for folks that don’t have QT installed.

They just come off my camera as QT, and I’m lazy.

I’ll make some generic MPEG’s tonight and add them.–

Hi Chuck,
Enjoyed the story and the pictures, I was able to get the first QT to
work but I couldn’t get the second to work, it would stop with the QT
logo.
Tweety sounds just like I would have expected, thanks again. Wiggy, I
really, really think you should keep the interior as your Mom had it!
Shag and all!
Take care,

It didn’t work for me either Wiggy. But I saved it to my computer and
clicked on it and it popped up Quick Time like it was supposed too.

I’m running Firefox/Thunderbird on XP Pro SP2 and I probably just don’t
have the plug-in configured properly. My Linux boxes never seem to have
those problems!

On another note, your flipping nuts! I get out in temps of 60 degrees
with shorts on and get frostbite.

But the snow reminds me of the little town in the mountains of Arizona
where I grew up. We got lot’s of that white stuff and I drove my
original OTS and even several bikes in it many times. But just seeing
it was enough of a fix to remind me why I like the desert now.

Oh no…I have my limits in kpaying ‘homage’ to my Mom’s spirit in
the car…the purple shag carpet, the tuck’n roll white Naugahyde

understand!
What Chuck touched upon and why I don’t mind the cold here so much
is this: Those bare metal spots you see on Tweety’s flanks? They’ve
been open to atmosphere with no protection, for OVER 2 years…and
onlya slight bit of rust flash on them! THAT’S why the cold
doesn’t bite here!–

Try this link:
http://chuck.goolsbee.org/images/tweety-rides-again.mov

I also just recompressed it into MPEG-4, with some extra special
added subliminal footage.

See if you can spot the hidden deep inner meaning.–

Paul,
I hope that this won’t ruin your day or life, but I
believe that the “tweet” is caused by Tweety’s
exhaust syatem and not the head. I have the same
exhaust system on my '64 3.8 FHC and get the
same ‘tweet’ sound.

You are truly a ‘jagophile’! I can relate, having done it in the
past few weeks, driving at freezing temps. In my case an ots, top
down, around 0 celsius. But, I had a windscreen.

Thanks to Chuck for allowing us to meet Tweety and you in
the ‘flesh’, albeit on the net. This really made my day, and I
vowed to continue to drive the ‘E’ during its ongoing
cosmetic/mechanical refurb. (not restoration).

Cheers, and thanks,

Bruce–

In reply to a message from JKOHLER@sbcglobal.net sent Wed 1 Mar 2006:

Sorry, Larry, but this time, I gotcha! WAAAY back when the car was
owned by the original owner, Curt Sommers, he wanted to find out
where the ‘tweet’ emanated from. Bit by bit, Dad removed the
exhaust from the back forward. He finally removed the cast iron
headers and started the car. Not only was it ASTONISHINGLY loud, it
still tweeted! Ergo, I’m fearful that when I rebuild the engine
(someday, I really gottta take the thing apart and see what’s
causing it to run) it won’t tweet no mo’! So Eric, I have no clue
how to make TTG’er tweet! Sowwy!
FYI: Tweety has never had a muffler in his life, having been
delivered to Curt from the factory with straight pipes and the 4
Abarth tips…that’s ALL the mufflage Tweets has ever had!–

Wiggles,
Looks like I must be wrong again! Sure sounds
like my '64 3.8 with the Abarth exhaust though.
Since I’ve never had an XKE that tweeted before
and the '64 is the only XKE I’ve had with an
Abarth exhaust, it seemed likely to me that it was
the exhaust. One of these days I’ve got to get a
good valve job, it sucks oil through the guides like
crazy, and we’ll see what happens to its tweet. In
the meantime, I guess that they are sisters :-).
