Wiggles,
Looks like I must be wrong again! Sure sounds
like my '64 3.8 with the Abarth exhaust though.

When I had my '64 OTS, I put Abarth exhaust on it as well. Really
always thought it looked cool.

If I can get my OTS out of the garage today, I’ll try to take a picture
of the Ansa exhaust on it. Similar to the Abarth and sounds cool.

Naw! It’s a possibility that yours is indeed in the pipes or the
tips.
I think the Abarth’s are the BEST looking tips out there: The
Ansas, though close, aren’t quite right and, of course, the Abarths
are collector items (pun MOST definitely not intended!).
In an effort to retain what little hearing I have left, I’m going
to put SuperTrapps on, like our world-famous Davey ‘‘What? Me,
Worry?’’ Ahlers has done to his but with interchangeable flanges so
I can put the Abarths back on for events and/or for show. If I can,
I’ll post Dave’s picture of his 'Trapps on the website tonight.–

Since I’ve never had an XKE that tweeted before
and the '64 is the only XKE I’ve had with an
Abarth exhaust, it seemed likely to me that it was
the exhaust. One of these days I’ve got to get a
good valve job, it sucks oil through the guides like
crazy, and we’ll see what happens to its tweet. In
the meantime, I guess that they are sisters :-).

Wiggles,
Yeah, I like the Abarths too. It’s a shame that they
are no longer available. Who knows, if we ever get
our heads ‘right’ and the Abarths rust off, out tweets
may be gone forever. I’m planning to hold on to
mine until I have to scrape them up off the road.

Hi Wiggie,
My 66 FHC has the same ‘‘chirp’’. Like Larry, I always put it down
to the exhaust. Mine too is fairly straight thru with headers,
glass-packs and the resonators. I wonder if port velocity with
these ‘‘open’’ systems reach some critical level, perhaps the ‘‘sonic
choke’’ the really good head porters run into?

BTW, I love the ‘‘poiple’’. That is a great color, will you be able
to reproduce it? House of Color, perhaps?

It’s a REAL tribute to the quality of Abarth exhaust bits, given
these tips are OVER 42 years old, have 160,000+ miles blown
through’m, AND, by my count, have been scraped off the car at
LEAST twice…;))–

One way to find out: Remove the headers from the head, wire them up
or support them away from the head, and start’er up! CAUTION: Use
earplugs, for you will NOT believe the ROAR, even at idle, this
creates! If the chirp emanates from the head, you’ll hear it!
As for the ‘poiple,’ no worries, mate! It’s an AMC/Chrysler color,
called either '‘Wild Plum’ or ‘‘Wild Grape.’’ I’ve already
checked…I await lotto winnings…!!!
That now makes THREE Jags that chirp! Hmmm…could be a Master’s
degree in this’un!–

Paul, I well remember the “wild plum” color as we bought a new 70
Dodge Challenger in that color. As Chrysler had all kinds of problems
with the paint peeling after a few years you may well have the oldest
“wild plum” paint job around!
Which Super Trapps are you considering buying! I’ve had the 24" SS
ones on my car for the past 12 years or so and really like the sound
and looks. With open end caps and no mufflers they’re a little,no
make that very loud, but with the standard end caps the exhaust tends
to throw crap around the license plate area.

OK, it was reported to me by many, that the image placeholders for
the movies were not working in certain browsers. Sure enough, in my
testing it works perfectly ONLY in the browser I use by default
(which has a market share of 0.0000000001% or something similar) so
apologies to all of you that could not view them with ease.

I’m am not an HTML coder by a long shot, and have given up making
this work in some universally supported fashion. However, I have
since re-edited the page, so there are links you can click (in the
words “click”… so clever) that will load the movies.

So now everyone can witness Tweety’s tweet, and purpleness in all
their glory, as well as watch Wiggie break icicles off his nose.
