A very good list indeed! Only 12 of them by my count from
the USA or part USA (Cobra).

Very cool. Thanks for sending. In my opinion the XJS
coupe is one of Jaguars best body designs (behind the E-
Type). Love that Volvo 1800 also. Bob–

I counted 13 1/2 if we give partial credit to the AC
Cobra.Very cool list but I freely admit prejudice when I say
that the E (monetary value aside) would still be my pick of
the litter.–

Ferrari 250 GTO Total produced= 39

Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale Total produced = 18

Jaguar XJ13 (we all know this story) only 1 ever produced.

Ferrari 330 P4, three produced, only one remains in original
configuration.

Total number of cars ever made listed before the E-Type = 61
Not much of a selection…not to mention you have to a
billionaire to afford any of these. I am a proud owner of
one of the first mass produced cars on this list  I have
two buddies that have second generation Corvettes that I
will gladly forward this article to.–

. . . and if you remove any Ferrari from the list I think it becomes the Top 60.

Most interesting to me? Every car in the top 5 other than
Jaguar itself, have body designs that scream E-Type.–

That plus IMO if the E Type had been made in such small
numbers I think it’s likely it would have been first! It was
penalized because it was made for the ‘common’ man/woman…
Cheers,

In reply to a message from nick 55 sent Wed 25 Dec 2013:

Er, or, the E-Type has a body design that screams '‘top
flight late ‘50s racer’’. C-Types, D-Types, and numerous
Ferrari and Maserati cars from the '50s had ‘‘that look’’.
Not that the E-Type copied them, but it participated in the
same design spirit that produced all of them.

And, as for me I don’t quibble with the first 5 cars. They
are all worthy designs for the top spot and very successful
in their own realm, which is not the same one the E-Type is
part of. E-Type coming first? Yeah, I agree! Ferrari 250
GTO coming first? Yeah, I agree!

Hi Jerry,
In my opinion the only car that equals the 250 GTO is the 250 SWB
Berlinetta and somehow that didn’t even make the list!

In reply to a message from Stevenson Robert sent Thu 26 Dec 2013:

Bob,

Yeah, you’re right! I had not even noticed. What is it
about the SWB? Not flashy like the GTO, no Kamm tail, no
faired-in headlights but somehow all just right.

I own 3 Ferraris (1/24 scale of course!) GTO, SWB, and 330
P3. Hard to choose between the first two. As I said,
sometimes I think the GTO is more beautiful than the
E-Type, sometimes the other way around. In some ways they
have so many of the same details, why aren’t they the
same? Close inspection shows that it’s the more modern
features (Kamm tail, wide-ish tires, staggered tire sizes,
and those extremely cool 3 extra vents on top!) and the
detail of a real Italian coachbuilder’s hammer that makes
the difference. Then the GTO just looks too flashy
compared to the purity of the E-Type. Gosh, it’s a
wonderful world!

In reply to a message from nick 55 sent Thu 26 Dec 2013:

have to say that the taste of the author is pretty impeccable.
The only questionable inclusion, in my mind, is the
TransAm…basically a sound design, but too many tack ons on
that model. 72 Camaro I think would have been a better choice.

In any event, as you read through the list, you see lots of
sweet vehicles in that list.–
