[E-Type] Progress report

Thanks again for helpful info on the wiring-
My 69OTS, having been eviscerated at the body shop (all those restoration
photos are really true!) and now almost through with reconstuctive surgery,
has uncovered some hopefully minor “putting back together electrical problems”
which, understandably, the body shop is reluctant to handle.
I’m going to use “Cloverleaf” Jag shop in Aston, PA- anyone have experience
with this outfit?
As a matter of interest to all you Jagfolks, had to do the following: bead
blasted entire car; replace driver’s side sill; put in a new cross beam where
rear joins the front under seats; reconstruct front of bonnett area; replaced
several old repair areas and repatching; plenty of sanding; 2 coats of prime;
5 coats “signal red”; rechrome rear bumpers; replace other chrome; front
bumpers OK; replaced passenger side window; replaced front window; installed 2
“speed” mirriors; new “correct” wheels and tires; Ames stainless steel exhaust
system; new front and rear lights; and, most importantly, am on first name
basis with 3 catalog suppliers!! Car has been at shop 5 months because I think
all the guys there have bonded with the E. Body shop I used - V&J Coachworks
in Paoli, PA - they are doing a caring job-there was no time constaint on
them.
Car is mechanically strong and is why I purchased it.
I know many of you do a lot of this work yourself. I envy you but I’m an
older guy
who just doesn’t have the talent to get into some of this stuff. - Ef

Hi all,

I have posted some new pictures on my web-site (
http://www.mraven.com/e-type-project-own-page6.htm and
http://www.mraven.com/e-type-project-own-page7.htm )

All the bolts, nuts and all thing iron have been zinc plated. Almost 100
kilo for the princely price of Euro 27,50 or USD 26.

Alt the metal from the IRS has been powder coated also.

The tub is coming along, etch primer is spayed on. Also I did primer the
parts of the hood/bonnet today.

I am lucky that I am allowed to do all the work myself at the bodyshop.
Only the things where I lack the skill are done by the craftsmen.

I have spend many, many hours at the bodyshop since the end of February.

At home I already assembled the rear brake calipers and the front uprights,
the last with sealed for life xj40 lower ball joints. Also had a nice
puzzle in putting together again the rear hatch lock. I could not remember
how I dismantled it.
Bob ( engl ) send me a few pictures and that helped.

So, back to the bodyshop tomorrow and do some more priming on the rest of
the hood/bonnet parts.

Jos,
Looking good. What a steal you got on that plating. I can’t imagine why a
shop there would be so much cheaper? My total plating costs were about 20
times that. You’ll have to publish the info on that shop for other folk’s
reference as it sounds like it would be more than worth the cost of
international shipping to send stuff there.

Just curious why you have a patch on the passenger’s side kick panel. From
the welding marks it looks like you had installed a new panel?

Hi Eric.
The plating has been done in Belgium, at a town some 20 kilometers away
from where I live in the Netherlands.
You can ring in one piece or 100 kilo’s , the price is the same. You have a
choice between zinc or yellow ( cadmium) plating. However, I thing that the
shipping cost for a 100 k’s would be prohibitive.
The shop is called: Glanszink in the town of Kinrooi, Belgium.

Both the passenger and the drivers kick panel have been out because of rust
problems at the very front edge.
Hence the patch. On the drivers side the front floor has been replaced also.
That was the only corrective labor regarding rust on this California E-type.

The hood/bonnet hinge had some new pipes put in, the PO did a terrible job
there trying to repair the damaged pipes.
Like taking a pipe one gauge larger and put it over the original and weld
it together. We decided to put some new pipes in.
