[E-Type] Re: Manifolds and wheels

Does anyone make stainless welded exhaust manifolds for the OTS 4.2, 1968?
Also where would I begin looking for non spoked wheels for this jag? They
don’t have to be polished cast aluminum. My original wheels are rusted
beyong repair and I’d like lighter wheels and wheels that are easier to
maintain.

Thanks for the Help

Hi, Bert -

If you can locate a set of hubs (front and rear) from a 3.8S sedan, you can
fit them to your car and use Chevy wheels (or almost any aftermarket wheels
that catch your eye) with perfect east and safety! Try some of the parts
dealers for the hubs Easy swap, and the safest (and cheapest) thing you
can do.

Can’t help you with the manifolds, though J. C. Whitney used to have a
header kit, consisting of two 3-cylinder manifold stubs, six equal-length
180 degree bends, and two three-to-one collector pipes, the idea being that
the ‘interested practitioner’ would cut and weld the U-bends such that
you’d wind up with a ‘bundle of snakes’ header set with six equal-length
pipes (for best scavenging), going into two 4" pipes, which you could then
route into a pair of side exhausts (ala D-Type) or reduce further and feed
into a conventional exhaust system!

I never built mine; it’s still in the box (and NOT stainless steel), but I
can dream . . . !!!

Good hunting!

Thanks for the Info. You are saying that the S type hubs would convert the
wheels to bolt on? If thats the case that seems simple. But are there no
direct replacements for the wires? Too bad about the manifolds. I’d really
like to find some as the PD (previous disassembler) broke the corners of
each manifold.

Thanks

Replacement (or repaired) manifolds are available, Bert. Try some of the
local salvage yards, or web or Hemmings advertisers (try John Willard at
Continental Auto Parts in Havertown (610-446-0900); he’s been dealing in
Jaguar parts for more than 35 years, and knows me well.

Dayton makes replacement knock-off wire wheels, and some dealers have
original ones available - check eBay auctions or Amazon auctions for
alternate sources.

Thanks for all the help with the soild wheels and manifolds. As usual
nothing turns of to be a simple solution with these wonderful cars. When I
got my jag back last April (all in parts), I really didn’t know anything
about E-types. Boy am I learning fast, but I’m no too sure it’s what I
don’t know or do know.

Thanks
