[E-Type] Relocating Amplifier

Steve, Glad to see that you are back on the road.with the BW fixed. re the
S III amplifier . I think that this topic is covered in Kirby’s book, and it
seems that it IS possible to lengthen the three wire set up if you stay
with the geometry of parallel wires . I seem to remember that someone has
suggested that you use a 5 wire assembly such as you find with computers,
and you use only the 3 with the unused ones as spacers.personally I would
think that you should go with a new longer wire and avoid plug connections
if at all possible .
Steve, I wondered what happened on your quest to solve overheating
situations with the your
S III. I remember that you had a situation where you thought that one carb
was causing a local overheating problem . Wondered what was the outcome.
maybe you posted this stuff , but I may have missed it .Happy motoring, John

Forgive me for my ignorance, John, but what is “Kirby’s book?” I am not
familiar with that book and am trying to get every book I can on these cars.

One thing that happens (in computers at least) if you want long cables are:
Noise increase and signal strength diminishes. noise is eliminated with a
shielded cable and as clean a signal as one can get, signal strength is
retain with quality wire and size, size increase also increase need for
slightly more amperage ( think home speaker cable for example, you easily
get into 1/4" size for a clean signal, the amplifier need more wattage to
drive them).

My 2cents…

“Kirby’s Book” is his giant volume for the XJ-S owner. We XJ6 owners use it
a lot too, since there are so many common parts. Naturally, there isn’t
quite as much crossover to E-Types, but it’s still a fun read regardless.

You can either buy a printed copy from Kirby or download it here:
http://www.jag-lovers.org/xj-s/book/Jaguar.html

It’s available as a Word document, and as a PDF (although I’ve sent Kirby a
PDF of the latest edition of the book, he still has the previous revision of
the PDF format on the web site).> -----Original Message-----
