[E-Type] replacement fuel pump

My original fuel pump is long long out of service, and a
NAPA electronic has been on the car since I bought it. It
went south yesterday. This morning I went to NAPA and bought
a replacement, only to find literature in the package saying
it is only for negative ground use.

I would appreciate information form some of you guys on am
available electronic fuel pump that is OK with my positive
earth car.

Thanks
Bruce–

Check with British Parts Northwest. They stock a dual

Is your fuel pump inside the tank? I have a '63 and have ok
experience with a fuel pump assembly that SNG provides.

Does anyone kave a pic of the “upgraded” fuel pump sold by SNG and probably
others that they can post? I’m curious to see what it looks like.----- Original Message ----

Stephan, my extant fuel pump is (was) a NAPA electronic unit
that had replaced the very dead in-tank original. the local
NAPA store said they no longer carry that unit, and they had
nothing for a positive ground. I have located some on the
internet, including the Aircraft Spruce that Paul Spurlock
had referenced in a thread I found in the archives. WalBro
has an appropriate one, but it is ‘‘no longer available,’’ for
whatever reason. I’'m like Larry Kohler, would like to see
a pic of the SNG unit.

Going back to an internal fuel pump is not an issue for me,
other than cost right now. I’m just interested in a
replacement bolt up unit for a positive ground system, and
was hoping someone who is using on ecould tell me a source
for a known-to-be-workable unit.

What is the SNG unit that you have?
Thanks,

There is a simple positive ground adapter kit available but
you could easily make your own:

Choose the pump pressure rating carefully to match the
requirement of your carbs.

Hope this helps–

Looks well thought out and well put together. The wires include
the bullets for plugging right in. The sock has a spring inside to
keep it from collapsing.–

You might check with Walt Osborn at Vintage Jag Works. He can
probably rebuild your old unit.

The SNG photo looks just like the replacement I got from XKs
Unlimited a number of years back. The pressure was too high, so I
installed a good fuel pressure regulator. The pump failed after
two years. A '74 Vega fuel pump was pretty much a drop-in for the
guts of the pump in the XKs unit, was inexpensive, and has worked
fine for three+ years. I have converted my vehicle to negative
ground, though. The SNG/XKs unit will likely not work for your
positive ground vehicle,–

Walt, thank you for the info – I will check with Vintage
tomorrow to see if that’s anything near viable for me. If
not, it looks as if the Walbro option is going to be my best
bet. I do appreciate your and others’ replies.

Entitled ‘‘3.8 submersible fuel pump upgrade’’

One fellow suggests taking your original pump to a
generator/alternator specialist to have it checked out and/or
repaired.

Polarity with the SNG pump isn’t an issue, by the way. It is
isolated from the car chassis and can be wired to accommodate
negative or positive ground.–
