[E-Type] Road or VSCCA

Just came back from the Jag/VSCCA weekend at Lime Rock. What a great day!
Some really nice jags both on and off the track. Since I’m so early into my
restoration I just have to ask the following. Can anyone give me comparative
costs on restoring my 65 FHC to really nice road condition vs vintage racing
condition?

For the road condition option, I’m planning a full frame up resto but plenty
of non original parts where I think modern replacements are better. Probably
an enhanced cooling system and Wilwood brakes for example. No intention of
building a concourse car, but I still plan on nice paint and a well
appointed interior.

In the case of a vintage racer, I envision some mild engine mods (like new
cams, but stick with SUs over webers, for example). A roll bar and anything
else VSSA requires…a fuel cell, racing harness and extinguisher maybe.
Probably a less than perfect interior and maybe a lower quality paint job. I
wouldn’t necessarily want a winner, just something to get me on the track
having some fun.

Has anyone been thru this? Any idea of relative resale with either option?

Tony might be the guy to ask about restoration to racing condition. I’ve
ridden in one that he has done, and can fairly say it would beat PrtyKty in a
drag race or on the road.
