[E-Type] Rubber lumbar strap on seat

I’m in the process of rebuilding the seats and am having
trouble finding a source for the rubber lumbar strap. Any
suggestions?–

I like that. I’ll look into it. My only questions would be
does the flexibility match the original strap and (more
importantly) would putting holes in the tube for the
mounting hooks just rip out? Maybe I could double the
tube over where the hooks go through.–

Rick;
I got new lumbar strapping when I bought my upholstery kit from
BAS. It was extra.
I think the inner tube may work but might be too ‘stretchy’. I
have some rubber roofing that I think would work well, doesn’t
stretch, and I would be glad to send you some.
Contact me by email if you wish.

Regards, Joel.–

Thanks Joel, I’ll get in touch with BAS. Is the roofing
strap close to the same elasticity of the original? I’ll
be in touch if the BAS thing doesn’t work out. Thanks.–

Rick,

Take an original band down to your local upholstery shop.
When I rebuilt my S3 seats my local shop had a great elastic
band material that almost matched the original in every way.
He also had end clips that fasten the bands. I think the
total cost was under $12.

Happy Motoring,

Dick

Rick
What you’re looking for is called Pirelli rubber webbing.
Commonly used in upholstery.
Good luck

Our local garden centre sells rubber straps for retaining
saplings, ideal, not too stretchy, just right…–
