[E-Type] S III Power Sreering Rack

I have just rebuilt the power steering rack , using a rebuild kit from one
of the regular suppliers .All the parts fitted fine and the rebuild is
straight forward (as far as i know ! ) by following the ROM. However, I am
having a problem to keep the fluid( ATF ) in the resevoir . With the engine
running the resevoir is topped up and the power steering works fine. While
the steering is being used the fluid levels stays more or less fixed as far
as one can judge ( its not too easy to see in there ).When the steering is
not being used , such as a long straight run, or when parked , the resevoir
then over flows. Sufficient fluid spills out, that when resterted the
resevoir is now empty and you start the refill/overflow cycle once more .
There are no leaks at any of the connections. I think that this situation is
related to an airlock, and that a system bleeding is needed. What say you ?.

Hi John,

You just did my next project now that the carbs are done, glad to hear it
was pretty straight forward. On other vehicles when you change out a pump or
steering box there is always a bleeding process that needs to happen, this
is usually done by turning the wheels lock to lock several times holding it
at the lock until you hear the pump bypass valve squealing. This will fill
the rack and all of the pipes and passages with fluid, it may have been air
going back to the pump that caused the overflow.
